Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy is a treatment that has shown to be effective in treating a wide range of disorders such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, eating disorders, and substance abuse among others. It is recognized as the gold standard psychological treatment for individuals diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). This group teaches mindfulness meditation skills, which is a core skill used throughout the group. Other areas of emphasis include Emotional Regulation, Distress Tolerance and Interpersonal Effectiveness skill building.

Imagine being calmer in the face of great distress.  Imagine not reacting to all your negative emotions and learning how to soothe yourself until the emotion dissipates.  And, imagine learning how to communicate more effectively.  This is what DBT is all about.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)

I have been certified by Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto to teach MBSR.

MBSR is a simple yet powerful stress reduction program that, if embraced and practiced daily, can bring awareness and healing to both body and mind. It was initially developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn (PhD), in 1979 at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.

Research indicates that mindfulness training can have a significant therapeutic effect for those experiencing stress, anxiety, high blood pressure, depression and chronic pain. In addition, participants typically report feeling more alive, more "in-tune" with themselves and others and able to cope with disturbing events with grace and composure.

Mindfulness is about being fully awake in our lives. It is about perceiving the exquisite vividness of each moment. We also gain immediate access to our own powerful inner resources for insight, transformation, and healing.
